berlin blues

The first thing that you find out when you arrive in Berlin in autumn is how much a sudden drift of cold wind could bash you on the face and leave you staggering on the street. In fact, it feels like a palpable slap of a cold leather glove that makes your teeth rattle. What dawns next is that cold, tingling realization that you came a tad too balmy in a city about to freeze over.

Well, that 6 degrees Celsius’ BBC weather forecast for the next fives days in Berlin seems a bit warm on the monitor the last time I checked. In fact, that was the maximum coldness it promised, so I was expecting the weather to turn bitter during the evening.

Since night, as I planned, involves infusing the blood with the right kind of spirit that Germany is known for, I presumed such a drop on temperature would be manageable. Once alcohol is in the blood to warm me up, even Norway would look a bit sunny. So I didn’t expect to get this now. Not in the bloody middle of the day while I’m about to have my lunch.

Oh well. I guess that bar on the other side of the restaurant I’m headed to looks mightily warm and inviting. And I’m never one to turn down a good invite. Especially when my face needs thawing. Click.
