There is something tangibly film noir about people in winter landscape. As evening approaches, the dark, brooding feeling is palpable in the air. As the light recedes, darkness creeps in, and you can almost visualise the cinematographer pulling up his collar against the cold.
Well almost really. Because as I held the thought in my mind, lost in the imaginary aesthetics of it, the Strawberry Cheesecake flavour Jelly Belly bean didn’t mix well with the Sizzling Cinnamon flavour bean (or was that Strawberry Daiquiri?) and left me partly coughing and choking.
As I try not to puke in the middle of a crowded harbour, I realised one thing though. If you actually think of it, a film noir is best because of the suspense it entails at the end.
The high-constrast, almost nihilistic landscape and the overtly dramatic lighting prelude to a surprise.
Maybe Jelly Belly is the kid’s lighter version of it. Not knowing whether you’ll be getting a treat of Toasted Marshmallow or a refreshing Root Beer is pretty surprising.
And of course, there's always the chance of being blasted with a Jalapeno. Click.
